Design your own house

Design your own house is a free drawing board on renovationstart.com. You draw the floor plan of a whole house per storey and see it in 3D straight away, with roof, facade and garden. What building it costs is shown as you draw, from the same cost engine as the calculator, at the price level of your country. You can start with one of the 17 example houses. An AI image and a film of the walk-through follow the shape of your own model, and you can put the same house anywhere in the world to see what it costs there. Drawing, the 3D view and the measurements cost nothing and need no account; only the film costs money (€14.95), and you see that before you press.

Type in plain words what you have in mind. The drawing board builds it, and after that you can change everything yourself.

Do you have a photo of the house? Add it and the drawing board reads the shape, the number of storeys, the roof and the windows from it. The photo is not stored.

This costs one impression credit, just like an image; 4 a month are free.

On a phone you do the big things: open a house, make it bigger or smaller, stick an extension onto it. The fine drawing work is easier on a laptop. New, and still very much in development.

Where is your design saved?

What you draw stays saved in your own browser, so it is still there on your next visit. Unless you have an image or film made yourself, nothing goes to a server. If you have an account, you can save several designs under a name and continue on another device. What others have shared is on the marketplace: there you search shared houses and objects and put them on the drawing board with one click.

How the house designer works

  1. Start with an empty plot or open one of the example houses, from tiny house to villa with pool.
  2. Draw rooms as rectangles, add storeys, doors, windows and stairs, choose roof and facade materials, dig, and place a pool, paths, terrace and garden objects; every change shows in 3D straight away.
  3. Pick a room and follow the route to it: per step you can have an AI image made (one credit each; four a month are free, then a bundle or the Renovation Pack), and of the whole route a forty-second film, priced before you start.
  4. Optionally sign in to save several designs under a name and continue on another device, or share a design with others.
What you enter:
Rooms, storeys, openings, roof, garden and objects you draw; optionally one sentence describing the house you want, or a photo of your existing house.
What you get:
