How does the quote check work?
You pick the project and region, enter the quoted amount, and we place it against the same validated national guide ranges that power the cost calculator. Below, within or above the range, with the honest nuance for each: a cheap quote needs its exclusions checked, an expensive one its itemisation.
Why do quotes for the same job differ by thousands?
Four causes explain nearly every gap, and none of them is "someone is ripping you off". The quotes do not cover the same work (scope), uncertain items are entered as provisional sums that shift the risk to you, labour rates and how busy the firm is differ, and the materials specification differs. Compare them line by line: put the quotes side by side, mark every line that appears in only one of them, ask for provisional sums to be specified, and put an independent range next to the totals, which is what the check on this page does. Is a quote below the range a red flag?
Not automatically, but it deserves questions: is VAT included, what is excluded (skips, scaffolding, making good), and is the specification the same as the dearer quotes? Most "cheap" quotes are pricing a smaller job, not doing the same job for less.
Is a quote above the range a rip-off?
Often not: difficult access, higher specification, a concrete floor or simply a busy diary can justify it. The range tells you what to ask, not what to conclude; an itemised breakdown settles it.
What happens to the quote I upload for the AI check?
It travels over an encrypted connection, is read once by the AI model to produce your report, and is then discarded. It is not stored on a server, not linked to you, and never used to train anything. The quick check at the top does not upload anything at all: those amounts never leave your browser.
What does the AI check cost?
Your first AI check of every calendar month is free, no account needed. After that, the Renovation Pack (one-off, no subscription) gives you five checks with no expiry; it lives on a free account so it survives any device. The quick range check above stays free and unlimited.
Where do my quote amounts go?
Nowhere. The check runs in your browser; your quote amounts never leave your device, and there is no email wall. That is the whole point of this site.
